Microchipping is a great innovation introduced over a decade ago to identify and reunite pets lost or found.
As of 1st July 2009 it has been compulsory to microchip all kittens and dogs over 8 weeks of age.
The microchip is a rice grain sized implant injected like a needle in the scruff of the neck and contains details of a number which can then be traced back to a database to supply all the information about your dog or cat should they be found after being lost.
It also will serve as a form of identification should there be any requirement for movement or travel or a contested ownership.
Microchipping can be performed at any time and just like an injection although some smaller dogs and puppies might feel a small amount of discomfort very temporarily at the time when the microchip is inserted like an injection.
It is also possible to do the microchipping when your pet is undergoing an operation especially desexings (castration or spay).
Please let us know if you would like your pet microchipped when you are next at the surgery.
